23. Stawamus Chief
by Melissa La Riviere

To me, the Stawamus Chief is a symbol of my home; many also consider it to be a place of spiritual significance. I chose to use irregular shapes to interpret its granite slabs, boulders and cracks, and used bold and lively colours to represent its beauty and immensity. These are colours that you would notice in the trees and wildlife while hiking the back trails, and when taking in the beautiful view from the top peak – the valley, mountains, sea and sky.
