This painting brings together the colour and vigor of Granville Island Market’s fruit stands with the dramatic essence of Caravaggio. I chose to emulate his use of chiaroscuro and warm light, which suits the vibrancy of Granville Island. Here a moment is captured of a man tending to his fruit – a peaceful distraction from the busy activity of the market.
