I chose this shipyard for the intricate shapes and details formed by its construction. The old shipyard being cleared away for new condos forms a contrast that is reflective of Vancouver as a whole: a city of opposites and diversity. I feel that Jon Foster’s impressionistic brushstrokes, vibrant colours and unique textures suit this theme well, and lend depth to this painting.
